on the 3rd day add bobby dazzler earrings #12daysofchristmas

When colourful, statement show stopping earrings are the accessory of the season it almost seems too easy to update your fail safe crimbo outfit.

From £5-£15 you can create a totally different look, especially wearing black.

Now this is a purchase you could get SO wrong or OH SO right. When buying something that stands out so much I feel it is best to get it exactly right.

Have you ever worn earrings and just felt like they didn’t look right on you, or pulled your face down, didn’t compliment your colour or outfit?

Well there is a bit of a science to buying the right earrings for your face shape AND since the colour is literally next to your face it is best to invest in one that is going to lift and enhance your colouring too.

Don’t fret I am going to help you figure all of this out and show my top picks of the season too.

FIRST let’s start with your face shape……

face shapes

If you don’t know your face shape I suggest scraping your hair back into a bun, sit in front of a mirror and draw around your face with eyeliner OR ask a loved one to take a picture of you on your phone.

Once you’ve done that, look at the table above and the guidelines should help you figure out which shape category you fall into.

NEXT…. Let’s look at which earring styles are bang on trend right now for each face shape!

I am LOVING the punchy colours of tassels, ball drop and pom pom shapes as well as the glitz and glamour of chains.

OVAL

Black tassel fan earrings, £8 River Island / Blue pom pom earrings, £12.50 Topshop / Black Zorah statement earringsSilver tone jewelled tassle earrings, £8 NextTriangle stud earrings, £8.50 Topshop

AVOID: long and thin dangling earrings that fall below your chin line, this can pull your face down to appear long.

WEAR: Other than that you can wear almost any shape, but triangular earrings or simple studs will show off your lovely cheekbones best. Earrings with a larger stud base are great options too.

LONG

Orange tassel fan earrings, £8 River Island / Large crystal oval earrings, £12.50 Topshop / Infinity stud earrings, £35 Beaverbrooks Blue pom pom earrings, £12.50 Topshop

AVOID: Long and thin dangly earrings that fall past the chin.

WEAR: If you have a long, thin face choose earrings that emphasise the width of your face. Studs, clustered earrings, short dangles, hoops in a medium to large size. Any kind of round earrings will widen your face, and make it look fuller.

ROUND

Gold tone knot drop earrings, £12 River Island / Blue tassle drop earrings, £16.50 / Rose gold chain earrings, £14 River IslandLong green tassle earrings, £8 Next

AVOID: Avoid large circular earrings, hoops and button studs which only emphasize the roundness. Also, stay away from drop earrings with a dangling round disc. The roundness will only make your face look rounder

WEAR: If your face is circular, meaning widest at the cheekbones with no taper to the chin, then you have a round face. Long drop or dangle earrings will elongate your face and make it look slimmer.

SQUARE

Red tassel hoop earrings, £10 Next / Black triple ball drop earrings, £10 River Island / Green bead & tassel drop earrings, £7 Topshop / Diamante teardrop earrings, £12 River Island

WEAR: Gals with wide square jaws ( forehead and jawline are similar widths) need to soften the hard edges of their face. To do this choose go for earrings that are medium to long with rounded edges. Oval shapes soften things up, and circular earrings and hoop earrings work well too.

HEART

Black tassel fan earrings, £8 River Island / Green bead & tassel drop earrings, £7 Topshop / Diamante teardrop earrings, £12 River Island / Black pom pom earrings, £7 River Island

AVOID: Earrings that mimic the shape of your face and are wider at the base and point at the bottom such as triangle.

WEAR: If your forehead is wider than your cheeks and the lower half of your face narrows like a heart then you have a heart-shaped face. In this case, you need to counterbalance your sharp chin with chandelier or tear drop earrings. Earrings that are wider at the bottom than the top help fill in the lower portion of your face, so your face is more balanced

DIAMOND

Diamante teardrop earrings, £12 River Island / Chain diamond drop earrings, £16.50 Emerald green pendant Earrings, £12 River IslandYellow Bead tassle earrings, £7 Topshop

AVOID: Wide or button earrings that will emphasise the widest point of your face.

FIND: You will want to balance your jaw with your earrings, and follow the shape of your face. Opt for long, dangly or oval earrings and small studs.
