Thanks to Instagram I found out it is National Bikini Day today, so what better day to post this blog.
So, it’s July and we are right into summer holiday season and getting into a bikini or costume when you don’t feel good about yourself can ruin holidays for some lovely ladies.
We all have our body hang ups, no matter how much people seem confident or perfectly together on the surface (AND Instagram).
I’ll go first…. my hang ups were AND still are some days….. Cellulite, eczema, muffin top and adult acne/scars. Who cares? No one is perfect. Once you accept them they don’t even seem that bad anyway.
After working in health and fitness for 14 years prior to being a Blogger/Stylist my career revolved around helping women get into shape.
And I’m here to tell you that the secret to being Bikini Confident has absolutely nothing to do with Diet or Exercise…..
Yep you heard me right!
I’ve seen hundreds of women over the years drop stones, tone up, transform their bodies and smash their goals. And guess what? Some of them were still no happier or more confident.
WHY? Because happiness and the real answer is in themselves.
Self acceptance and Self love!
Now I’m not saying living healthy and exercising isn’t important because it is and is very much a way of life for me.
However, without self acceptance and self love it can be a struggling journey.
When you hit both, you hit the Jackpot.
What is a ‘Bikini Body’ anyway? What do you think of? Probably a tall, slim blonde woman without an inch of cellulite and golden skin.
A Bikini Body looks like whatever the hell you want it to OR looks like whatever you look like in a Bikini.
I’ve been through these feelings myself, I’ve been at the point where I ate so well and trained so much that I had abs to be bikini ready.
BUT looking back I was pretty miserable due to a lack of self acceptance and love.
I feel more beautiful and happy now. Enjoying life more is a healthy balance of what is good for me and what I love (Fish & Chips mmmmm).
Following on from that, learning about your body shape and how to dress it is the icing and the cherry on your body CAKE!
So here are 3 things that helped me feel bikini ready and I hope help you do too lovelies….
STOP STRIVING FOR PERFECTION
Until you accept your body shape and what god gave you, you will struggle to be body confident. Always striving for perfection and wanting to change yourself is a constant negative battle.
You ARE who you are!
There is no such thing as an ideal “Beautiful”, everyone is unique and their own version of beautiful. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You could look in the mirror and see ugly or beauty, it all depends on your perspective.
Confidence and self love is the most beautiful smile you can ever wear.
I mean who wants perfect anyway? It sounds pretty boring!
Ashley Graham’s self confidence has inspired so many curvy women and broke the social mould. She even has her own bikini line that has inspired a sea of bikini selfies from curvier girls on Insta feeling the #self love. Woop go girl!
BE KIND TO YOURSELF
You are in this body for the rest of your life so you might as well get along and be nice to each other.
Are you good enough? Do you look good enough? The answer is most likely YES.
Always giving yourself a hard time, focusing on the negatives about yourself and worrying about what others think. Everyone else on that poolside is too busy thinking about themselves and how they look believe me, not you.
Look in the mirror and focus on one positive about yourself daily.
DRESS FOR YOUR SHAPE
Learning about your true self like your body shape will help you to learn and accept it, then dress to emphasis the best of it rather than hide or change it.
There is something envious about every body shape and learning to emphasise your best bits will transform how you dress and ultimately feel.
This even goes with Bikini’s. Finding the right bikini is so important to feeling great on the poolside, even more so than your clothes considering your walking around half naked for a week or 2. You definitely want to feel ‘right’.
If you’re unsure of your body shape I will help you figure it out HERE before shopping bikini shapes with Bravissimo and ME in tomorrow morning’s blog.
