Style resolutions to make 2018 your best dressed year yet

The party outfits are out (for now) and January is all about new resolutions, de-cluttering life and working on an even better you in 2018.

Everyone set’s goals in January or tackles an area of their life or self.

If working on yourself confidence and wardrobe is on the 2018 list then Hello, you’ve come to the right place lovely.

As a Stylist this is what I work on most with clients this time of year.  So here are the first 2 of my Style Resolutions to make 2018 your best dressed and least stressful shopping year yet…

  1. WEAR MORE COLOUR

…….the right colours!

We’ve all been guilty of falling into the neutral trap of only wearing 1 or 2 colours, living in black , grey or beige. The reason we get attached to these colours is because its either one we suit and know we always feel good wearing it OR it is a confidence thing. It is safe and easy for us and takes confidence to step out of our comfort zone to try new colours. A lot of the time it’s because we don’t know what suits us, therefore we stick to the one colour we like or know suits us.

Personally, my goal is to try and buy more of the other colours in the Palette I suit. I’m obsessed with Emerald green (in case you hadn’t noticed), monochrome, cobalt blue and Red. I’m going to try my best neutrals such as Taupe and charcoal as well as my best yellows, pinks and aqua blue.

Understanding your colour palette and what suits you will make wearing Colour in 2018 so much easier. Read my post HERE helping you figure this out or check out my services of how I can help you personally with this.

When I want to try more colours I suit, I simply go to Kettlewell Colours click to shop my colours and browse over my palette. This makes life so mush easier and you know you are investing in the right colours.

2. INVEST IN ESSENTIALS

wardrobe essentials elle

It’s easy to end up with a wardrobe full of panic and lust buys. My wardrobe used to be full of these from ZARA, I like to call them ‘one hit wonders’.

You could have a wardrobe full of going out clothes when you go out once a month and not enough casual or vice versa? I love buying dresses but you need a practical wardrobe that suits your lifestyle.

OR you could have a thing for buying a particular item such as shoes or handbags. My thing is coats and Blazers but sometimes that money could be better spent across your wardrobe on other essentials you need.

If you have 50 pairs of shoes but no decent jeans to wear or a coat then it’s going to be a better investment.

You can often find yourself in a situation where you say, this outfit would work if I had….. (You fill the gap) The right bra, some black court shoes, a pair of jeans that fit, a blazer, some long boots or the right handbag.

Personally, I have noticed I desperately need to invest in a good, everyday casual handbag. One that doesn’t look too dressy or work wear with my everyday Joni jeans and new balance trainers for instance. I love these 2 below for both budgets……..

Sometimes it can feel boring when there are so many pretty and shiny things in the shops or on Instagram but we need them and they are always 100% worth Investing in.

I find understanding your best Colours and Body Shape make investing in essentials so much simpler and stress free. Investments are not just wardrobe essentials but pieces that work for you and always will. This is how you start to build a capsule wardrobe.

If you’re unsure of what essentials are, they are your most used and worn pieces like coats, shoes, jeans, white shirt, everyday handbag etc etc. I will be covering this more in depth in a post next however.

I will be updating this post with more Style Resolutions over January.

This is a great time to invest in essentials during the sales.

Happy January Shopping lovelies! xxx

  1. love this! My style resolution: Not to buy the same piece in 12 colors (exaggerating, but not really) but definitely need more color in my wardrobe – I’m a maroon, navy and gray kind of gal!
